“The President has listened to the American people and Don Rumsfeld has put our country first. Secretary Rumsfeld has earned the nation's gratitude for loyal service over the last 40 years.
“Bob Gates’ nomination is an opportunity for fresh thinking and a more effective strategy to achieve our goals in Iraq.”
