Congressman Rothman Joins the 2006 Memory Walk

2006 Memory Walk Kick-Off

(Paramus, NJ)— On Sunday, October 29, 2006, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) joined the Alzheimer's Association of Greater New Jersey for the 2006 Memory Walk at Van Saun Park in Paramus. Over 1,000 residents came out for the annual event, which funds programs and services for more than 350,000 New Jerseyans and their families who are affected by Alzheimer's and related diseases.

"Caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease is often difficult and overwhelming," said Rothman, who has participated in the Memory Walk each year since its inception. "Each day brings new challenges, changing levels of ability and new patterns of behavior. That is why, through its support groups, helpline and respite care program, the Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter is an invaluable resource for caregivers and family members of those living with Alzheimer's in our state."

In honor of the Alzheimer's Association, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) presented the organization with a proclamation on behalf of the people of New Jersey commending its staff "for their determination and incredible efforts in bringing comfort and aid to those living with Alzheimer's, their families, and their caretakers."

Nationwide, Alzheimer's affects around four a half million Americans and it is estimated that the number of individuals with Alzheimer's will grow to at least 11 million by 2050.
