U.S. Chamber Honors Rep. Jerry Moran With Coveted Spirit of Enterprise Award

Topeka, Kan. (August 30, 2006) - On behalf of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, The Kansas Chamber awarded Congressman Jerry Moran (KS-1) with the coveted Spirit of Enterprise Award from the world's largest business organization.

AT&T - Kansas President David Kerr presented the award in a ceremony at the Federal Home Loan Bank in Topeka. Kerr is Incoming Chair of The Kansas Chamber.  FHLBank's President and CEO Andrew Jetter was host for the event.

Kerr noted that Congressman Moran received the award for supporting pro-growth policies in the U.S. Congress.  The Spirit of Enterprise Award praises lawmakers that lead the way to create jobs and spur economic growth on key issues like energy, trade, transportation, and legal reform.

Eligibility for the "Spirit of Enterprise" award is based on how members of Congress vote on key business issues, including

  • Class Action Reform,
  • Comprehensive Energy Legislation
  • Bankruptcy Reform
  • Free Trade
  • Renewal of the Federal Terrorism Insurance Program
  • A Long-Term Federal Highway Bill

At the ceremony, Kerr said, "Congressman Moran was a friend to business and The Kansas Chamber of Commerce in his two terms in the Kansas Senate where he rose to Majority Leader, before becoming a Congressman.

"Thank you, Congressman, for your work to stimulate the economy and create more opportunity for Kansas business and for Kansans.  Please accept the U.S. Chamber's Spirit of Enterprise Award on behalf of a grateful Kansas business community."
