Moran Announces House Passage of Cost-of-Living Adjustment for Veterans and Dependents

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced House passage of legislation he sponsored to provide an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for service-disabled veterans and their families. Beginning December 1, 2006, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act would provide a cost-of-living adjustment to the rates of compensation for 2.6 million veterans with service-connected disabilities and to the rates of compensation paid to more than 340,000 spouses and children of service-disabled veterans.

"The annual cost-of-living adjustment is one of the most important things our nation does for disabled veterans and surviving family members," Moran said. "Congress has a responsibility to care for veterans who rely on this benefit."

The cost-of-living adjustment is factored into various veterans' benefits programs. Congress has approved such adjustments for veterans every year since 1976.

Moran is a senior member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and has served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health.
