Moran Announces Emergency Haying Approved for Kansas Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a Kansas Farm Service Agency request for emergency haying of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres in 37 Kansas counties. Producers in these counties are eligible to sign-up for emergency haying of CRP acres beginning July 15.

"Producers in more than half of the Big First have now been approved for both emergency haying and grazing of CRP acres," Moran said. "These announcements are necessary to help Kansas producers maintain their herds during this continuing multi-year drought."

Last month, 36 of the 37 counties were approved for early emergency grazing of CRP acres. Hodgeman County was recently added for both emergency grazing and haying. According to the Kansas FSA office, additional counties may be considered upon the county's submission of an application that complies with the requirements for emergency haying and grazing of CRP acres.

The 37 counties approved for emergency haying of CRP acreage are Cheyenne, Clark, Comanche, Decatur, Edwards, Ellis, Ellsworth, Finney, Ford, Gove, Graham, Grant, Gray, Greeley, Hamilton, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Lane, Lincoln, Logan, Meade, Morton, Ness, Osborne, Rawlins, Rush, Russell, Scott, Seward, Sherman, Stanton, Stevens, Thomas, Trego, Wallace and Wichita.

Moran is a senior member of the House Committee on Agriculture.
