Moran Announces Five Additional Counties Approved for Emergency Grazing

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a Kansas Farm Service Agency (FSA) request for early emergency grazing of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres in five Kansas counties. The counties approved are Ford, Scott, Sherman, Wallace and Wichita.

"This is welcome relief for Kansas livestock producers in these additional counties," Moran said. "The drought continues in Kansas and without this timely announcement, producers would be forced to disperse portions of their herds."

The drought in Kansas is extending into its fifth and sixth years. An original 45-county request from the Kansas FSA office was initially granted for 31 counties. According to the Kansas FSA office, additional counties continue to be reconsidered as additional documentation is submitted.

Moran is a senior member of the House Committee on Agriculture.
