Moran Announces Funding Approved

for Veterans' Medical Care

Hosts Veterans' Forum after Memorial Day

to Focus on Issues Facing Kansas Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced House approval of the 2007 Military Quality of Life Appropriations that will provide increased funding for veterans' medical care. This legislation recognizes our country's commitment to care for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and our aging veteran population.

"It is important for Congress to hold the line on spending, but I am glad to see we are making veterans a priority," Moran said. "Our veterans stepped up in times of need to protect our nation and it is our turn to look out for them. They deserve the best health care available."

This legislation increases veterans' medical services 11.5 percent from last year. Moran was also successful in blocking the Administration's proposal to increase prescription drug co-payments and establish enrollment fees for veterans receiving Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care in Priority Groups 7 and 8. These groups include veterans who have incomes above a certain level and do not have service-related disabilities.

Moran will continue his efforts to make sure veterans are receiving the proper care they deserve by hosting his seventh veterans' forum the day after Memorial Day in Marion to discuss health care and benefits provided by the VA. Tom Sanders, Director for the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, and Charles Woolford, Director for the Robert J. Dole VA Regional Office, will join Moran to hear the thoughts and concerns of veterans.

The event will be Tuesday, May 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Marion VFW Post #6958, 420 W. Santa Fe. Members of Moran's staff will be on hand along with representatives from the VA to handle any concerns that veterans or their families may have. All area veterans and members of the public are encouraged to attend.

Moran is a senior member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and has served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health.
