Moran Recognizes the Community of Palco

Moran to Present the Community of Palco with “Building Better Communities” Award

PALCO - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced he will recognize the citizens of Palco for long-term efforts to sustain and revitalize their community with his "Building Better Communities" award. In the last decade, this town of 235 people has invested more than $3 million in their community.

Through hard work and community support, the citizens of Palco have been creating their own opportunities for success. Jobs have been added to the Palco economy through expansion and development of local businesses, including a bank and a service station and body repair shop. Palco residents have access to needed health care services thanks to a 2004 project to renovate and open the Palco Medical Clinic. Grocery and food services have been maintained through new ownership of the local grocery store and the remodeling of a local restaurant. Government services were enhanced with the construction of a new city building that includes a city office, ambulance service and fire department. Other local projects have included a new sewer plant, a new city street near the downtown area and now developing plans for a local day care facility.

"The community has done a lot to keep going forward and Palco continues to grow," Mayor Leo VonFeldt said. "Citizens are willing to give of their time, energy and resources. This is what makes Palco great."

"Over the last ten years, the citizens of Palco have taken action to ensure their community continues to be home to another generation of Kansans," Moran said. "Each local project has made a positive contribution to the community."

The recognition ceremony for the citizens of Palco will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, at Township Hall, 502 Main Street, in Palco

The "Building Better Communities" award was established by Moran to showcase positive community action in Kansas. Beyond providing recognition, this program provides examples of how creative thinking and teamwork make a positive difference in rural America.
