Jindal Announces $13 Million in FEMA Grants for Louisiana


Metairie, LA, Oct 12 - Metairie, LA - Congressman Bobby Jindal (LA-01) today announced five Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants totaling $13,063,281 for the state of Louisiana. The grants were announced for Jefferson Parish and the University of New Orleans.

"I am pleased to announce these substantial grants for Louisiana," Jindal said. "This funding is crucial to helping our state continue the recovery efforts throughout South Louisiana as we rebuild from the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita."

Grants that were awarded include:

  • $10,677,997 was awarded to Jefferson Parish.
    • $8,951,805 for interim housing for essential parish personnel.
    • $1,726,191 for debris removal.
  • $2,385,284 for the State of Louisiana Facility Planning and Control to replace electrical systems at the University of New Orleans.

FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state, and the state is responsible for allocating the money to the local entity.
