Interning in my office is an excellent opportunity to get a hands-on experience of the legislative branch. During your experience you will learn that in the Senate interns provide a valuable service that not only renders substantial assistance to Senators and their staff, but enables them to assist constituents in a variety of ways. Internship opportunities are availible year round to Missouri college students at both our Washington D.C. office and our local state offices.
While interning in my office, you will have the opportunity to see first-hand the workings of a congressional office and observe the political process in action. As an intern your responsibilities include: assisting legislative staff with research, giving Capital tours, organizing mail, meeting constituents, answering telephones, data-entry, and work on other projects as needed. To be an intern, you should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have excellent writing and communications skills. Your ability to work in a team environment is essential.
The internship program in Washington, D.C. consists of a four-month session in the spring and fall, and two six-week sessions in the summer. Applicants are typically in their junior year of college, but we encourage all students to apply. Missourians interested in applying for an internship must complete and mail the following: the internship application, a current resume, a brief writing sample (1-2 pages), and two letters of recommendation.
Please complete and mail the internship application to my Washington office by March 17, 2006.
