Transportation
Throughout my tenure in Congress, I have advocated for the transportation needs of Pennsylvania. By simply looking at a map, it is evident that if a product is being transported to or from the northeastern part of the U.S., this product is often shipped through Pennsylvania on our highways. Statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation indicate that 46 percent of truck traffic in Pennsylvania is "pass-through" (neither originating from nor having a destination in Pennsylvania) and hence provides economic benefits primarily for other states. When compared to other similar sized states with only a handful of interstate highways, Pennsylvania, by contrast, has numerous major interstates. I believe that Pennsylvania is a perfect example of why federal transportation bills exist in the first place: to reimburse those states that shoulder a disproportionate financial burden and to facilitate interstate commerce in America
