HELP WITH FEDERAL AGENCIES

I am always happy to assist residents of Maine in dealing with federal agencies. As your United States Senator, I want to make sure your government is working for you and your rights are respected. While I cannot require an agency to make a specific determination on your behalf, I am happy to assist you with cutting the red tape and getting the answers to your questions. My offices can serve as a liaison between my constituents and the federal government.

In order for my office to assist you it is necessary, under the Privacy Act of 1974, to be granted permission in writing by you in order to contact the appropriate federal agencies on your behalf. The purpose of this Act is to protect your individual rights by prohibiting the release of personal information to unauthorized parties. The written request should be addressed to Senator Olympia Snowe and should state that you give permission to me to make contacts on your behalf. Your request may be in the form of a letter or by completing the Privacy Release Form (PDF, 17Kb). Additionally, please be sure to state the details of your problem and what you would like me to do on your behalf as I cannot take action on your behalf without the specifics of your concern. Include any documentation that may help to build your case.

If you are not a resident of Maine, I encourage you to contact your United States Senator. It is a longstanding Congressional courtesy that each elected official be allowed to assist his or her own constituents. Your Senator will also know the additional resources that may be available to you in your home state.

If your problem involves the state of Maine or one of its agencies, you may wish to contact the Governor's office or your representatives to the Maine General Assembly.
