United States Capitol

Between Constitution and Independence Avenues

The Capitol is open to the public for guided tours only. Tours will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday (the Capitol is not available for tours on Sundays).  Visitors must obtain free tickets for tours on a first-come, first-served basis, at the Capitol Guide Service kiosk located along the curving sidewalk southwest of the Capitol (near the intersection of First Street, S.W., and Independence Avenue; see the map below). Ticket distribution begins at 9:00 a.m. daily. Ticketholders will be directed to the South Visitor Receiving Facility.  Maximum tour size is 40 people.  Please contact the U.S. Capitol Guide Service if you have any questions before your visit. For security reasons, visitors are not permitted to bring into the Capitol aerosol and non-aerosol sprays; cans and bottles; food and beverages; oversized suitcases, duffle bags and backpacks; knives of any length, razors and box cutters; mace and pepper spray. Please note that the Capitol Police are authorized to make exceptions if a prohibited item is determined to be necessary and required to serve child care, medical or other special needs. Public tours of the White House are available for groups of 10 or more people. Requests must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance.These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays), and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis approximately one month in advance of the requested date. We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available.  Due to high demand in the spring and summer seasons, requests need to be submitted months in advance.  You will find out if the tour has been approved approximately three to four weeks before the scheduled date of the tour. All White House tours are free of charge. For the most current tour information, please call the 24-hour line at 202-456-7041. Please note that White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing

General tours of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing are offered between 9:00AM and 2:00PM, Mondays through Fridays, and last 35 minutes. Tours are not available on weekends and holidays. Tickets for these tours are limited and are available at the Bureau on a first-come, first-served basis. The public tour is designed to accommodate individuals, families, and groups. During the summer, June through August, the Bureau will offer extended evening public tours from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. Tickets for tours can be obtained by contacting the Bureau directly at (202) 874-2330 (local)  or 1-866-874-2330 (toll-free). 

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

Metro Stop: Foggy Bottom (The Kennedy Center provides a free shuttle to and from the Foggy Bottom Metro, every 15 minutes.)

The Friends of the Kennedy Center gives free tours of the Kennedy Center from 10:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday and 10:00AM to 1:00PM, Saturday and Sunday. They depart from the parking plaza on Level A, and feature the Hall of States and the Hall of Nations, the Center's main theatres, and dozens of paintings, sculpture, and other works of art given to the Center by foreign countries. The National Archives

Metro: Archives-Navy Memorial

The Rotunda of the National Archives Building in downtown Washington, DC, reopened on September 18. The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence have returned to public display. The accessible entrance to the National Archives Building is located at the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the building. Researchers, museum goers, Rotunda visitors, and other individuals requiring accommodation for wheelchairs, strollers or any other type of accessibility assistance, must use the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance.  The National Archives is open everyday of the year except Christmas, December 25th.  Customer Service Center Telephone Number: 1-866-325-7208.

The United States Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is open to the public, Mondays through Fridays, from 9AM to 4:30PM. The Court is closed for tours, Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. The line to observe oral arguments forms on the outside plaza as early as 8AM. Tickets are not necessary for admission. The Court admits visitors every half hour on the hour, on a first come, first served basis, starting at 9AM. Court sessions begin at 10AM with seating limited to 250.  To obtain updated information on visiting the Court, including any schedule changes, please call (202) 479-3211.

United States Department of State

Guided tours of the Department of State's Diplomatic Reception rooms are conducted Monday through Friday at 9:30AM, 10:30AM, and 2:45PM. Tours are 45 minutes long. Tours should be made at least four weeks in advance. (This is a fine arts tour and not recommended for children under 12.) The Library of Congress offers guided tours, Mondays through Saturdays at 11:30AM and 1, 2:30 and 4PM. Tours meet in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building. Spanish Language tours are given on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11AM. Tours are limited to 50 people. Reservations are not required but please call the Visitor Services Center of the Library at (202) 707-4684 to inquire about tours for groups of 10 or more.

Memorials, Monuments, and Other Points of Interest
The following memorials and monuments on the National Mall are open daily from 8AM until 11:45PM, every day except Christmas Day. There are no fees to visit any of the monuments or memorials on the National Mall.

Korean War Veterans Memorial

Park rangers are available to answer questions and present interpretive themes at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. A bookstore in the nearby Lincoln Memorial sells informational items relating to both the memorial and the Korean War. The Korean War Veterans Memorial is part of the National Park System, one of more than 360 parks representing our nation's natural and cultural heritage.

The Washington Monument

Open 9AM until 4:30PM, closed on July 4th and Christmas Day. Tickets are required. They are free and available at the booth located on the west side of 15th Street, NW, on the Mall. Due to high demand for Washington Monument tickets, it is advised that you pick up tickets early in the morning. Alternatively, advance tickets can be reserved for a small fee by visiting http://reservations.nps.gov. Facilities: Bookstore, Restrooms, and Museum.
