U.S. SEN. WAYNE ALLARD ANNOUNCES $3.3 MILLION GRANT FOR MONTROSE SENIORS HOUSING
|
|
November 1st, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) announced today that the Volunteers of America will receive more than $3.3 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a new low-income senior housing complex in Montrose.
“This affordable housing for Colorado seniors will help those that have very limited financial resources,” said Allard, Chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation. “I appreciate the Volunteers of America for its effort to provide seniors in Montrose with an affordable place to call home.”
The $3,358,400 grant will be used to construct a 31-unit, three-story building for 30 low-income elderly residents and a resident manager. The site is located across the street from the Senior Center and is within two miles of a hospital, grocery store, shopping venues, churches and the library.
In addition, the town sponsors a senior shuttle that serves the elderly in town. This service will allow the residents to take part in a wide variety of activities.
This federal funding was acquired through HUD’s Section 202 Program, which provides grants to non-profits to acquire, build or rehabilitate rental properties for senior citizens.
