U.S. SEN. WAYNE ALLARD ANNOUNCES $2.9 MILLION GRANT FOR HOUSING FOR PERSON WITH DISABILITIES IN GREELEY
|
|
November 1st, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) announced today that the ASI, Inc. will receive more than $2.9 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a new low-income housing complex for the disabled in Greeley.
“This affordable housing for Colorado persons with disabilities will help those that have very limited financial resources,” said Allard, Chairman of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Transportation. “I appreciate the ASI for its effort to provide those with physical disabilities in Greeley with an affordable place to call home.”
The $2,945,500 grant will be used to construct a 23-unit, two-story building for 22 low-income persons with severe physical disabilities and a resident caregiver. The residents will have access to various activities, including attending school or work, participating in sheltered workshops and volunteering at local social service agencies to help the residents maximize their independence.
This federal funding was acquired through HUD’s Section 811 Program, which allows persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community by increasing the supply of rental housing with the availability of supportive services.
