There are a number of exciting opportunities for students in the Senate. In addition to internships with Senator Stevens, which are described below, the Senate Page Program provides high school students with a chance to become involved in the operations of the Senate. My office also provides support for students seeking nominations to a military academy. Information on both these opportunities can be found by clicking on the links below the picture.

Graduating Alaskan high school seniors and Alaska college students are eligible to apply for summer internships in Senator Ted Stevens' Washington, D.C., office. Click on the highlighted text below to download or print the internship applications.

Applications for a four-week high school internship session may also be obtained through students' school principals or guidance counselors. There are two high school internship sessions: one from early June to early July and another from early July to early August.

College internship positions are available at Senator Stevens' Washington, D.C. office and may be available at his Alaska offices. College internships last throughout the summer.

The internship program offers young Alaskans the opportunity to assist the Senator and staff members in a variety of ways. Interns' assignments could include researching legislative issues, monitoring committee hearings, answering telephones, performing clerical and press office duties, or delivering messages to the Senate floor.

High school interns' schedules also include visits to national monuments, landmarks and historic sites, and cultural and sporting events.

Interns receive a stipend to cover housing and normal living expenses. The Senator's Washington, D.C., office arranges for housing at a reasonable fee, usually on the campus of the George Washington University.

High school applications must include a two page essay, the applicant's school transcript and resume, and the names, addresses, and phone numbers of two adult references. College interns are required to submit a cover letter, a resume, college transcripts, at least two letters of recommendation and one or more writing samples.
