(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Members of Maine and New Hampshire’s congressional delegations met with Navy Secretary Donald Winter to discuss an equitable and sustainable workload for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, New Hampshire Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu, Maine Representatives Tom Allen and Mike Michaud and New Hampshire Representatives Jeb Bradley and Charles Bass issued the following statement:

"Today, the New Hampshire and Maine congressional delegations met with Navy Secretary Donald Winter to discuss an equitable and sustainable workload for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard well into the future.  It was a positive and constructive meeting during which the Secretary pledged to conduct a complete review of all aspects of our nation's four public shipyards to develop a strategic plan to manage the workload at each facility.  We look forward to continuing our work with the Secretary in the coming weeks to make sure the Navy makes optimal use of the unmatched skill, quality, and efficiency of the workforce at Portsmouth, which has made the Yard the 'gold standard' for returning submarines back to service on time and on budget."
