(Washington, D.C.)U.S. Sen. David Vitter will be an active participant in a U.S. Senate Commerce Committee hearing on the recent purchase by Dubai Ports World (DP World) of the P&O Port division of P&O Group on Tuesday, February 28. Vitter serves on the Commerce Committee.

“I have very strong concerns about this proposed deal, particularly since it directly impacts the port of New Orleans,” said Vitter. “We must have a full opportunity in Congress and elsewhere to get answers to some tough questions, and this hearing is a part of the investigation process.”

The Commerce Committee hearing will examine DP World’s purchase of P&O Ports and the security role held by the U.S. government at ports.  This deal allows DP World to gain access to terminal leases held by P&O throughout the world, including six in the United StatesNew Orleans, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Miami.
