How to Help the Victims of Hurricane Katrina | Print |

Dear Friends,

Northeastern Pennsylvanians are no strangers to the wrath of hurricanes. And I know that many of you are eager to lend a hand to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the monstrous storm that left immeasurable devastation and death in its wake. The people of the 11th district are known for their generosity when tragedy strikes, whether it is a natural disaster or a terrorist attack on our country.

I encourage you to register what resources you have available on a new federal government Web site, the National Emergency Resource Registry.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has a list of agencies and non-profit organizations that are accepting voluntary contributions for the survivors of this devastating natural disaster.

Unfortunately, when disasters happen, a variety of fraud and other consumer protection issues arise. I encourage you to consult the Federal Trade Commission, which has launched a Web site with important information about scams you might encounter, if you have any concerns.

Sincerely,
Congressman Kanjorski

Locating Missing and Stranded Individuals

http://homeport.uscg.mil/mycg/portal/ep/home.do and complete the missing and stranded persons form, and it will be fed directly to rescue operations.
In addition, this website has additional emergency phone numbers to assist with the recovery efforts. http://www.firstgov.gov/Citizen/Topics/PublicSafety/Hurricane_Katrina_Recovery.shtml
