In these cases, my constituent liaison staff can "cut the red tape" and help advocate and expedite an appropriate, and hopefully positive, resolution. Each Senator may have five individuals (5 slots) at an Academy at any one time. The Senator nominates ten individuals per open slot at the individual academy from the hundreds of applications filed. For more than 100 years, messengers known as Pages have served the United States Congress. Pages are appointed and sponsored by a member of Congress and must be high school juniors and at least sixteen years old. Honor Hard Work with a Higher Minimum Wage The federal government is supposed to work for the people of the United States. Unfortunately, the Republican-dominated 109th Congress has failed to address some of the most urgent needs of the American people. There is no energy policy to reduce our dependence on oil. There have been no measures to curb the soaring cost of health care. And this month Congress adjourned for August recess without approving a long-overdue pay raise for the millions of Americans who work for minimum wage. |
