  • Thoroughly read the information below to determine whether or not I can assist you.

  • Contact Me

What exactly is casework?

Casework can be defined as the assistance provided at the request, and on behalf of, Kansans in their dealing with federal agencies. Typically Casework involves individuals, groups with a common concern, or small businesses, and can include a problem, grievance, question of eligibility, need, or other tangible interest or benefit to these groups.

The basis for this service by my office can be found in the first sentence of the Constitution: "We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect Union... establish justice...promote the general welfare....." Certainly there is little doubt that the casework function in my office will promote the general welfare of those Kansans seeking my assistance.

As a federal representative in the United States Senate, I have the ability to address the concerns of my constituents if they are encountering problems associated with the federal government or a federal agency. Examples of federal agencies are listed below:

What is not casework?
Unfortunately, due to the separation of the legislative and judicial branches of government, members of Congress cannot intervene in matters which are involved in criminal and civil legal cases. Examples of these types are listed below with suggestions as how best to proceed in those matters. (See below)

  • Legal Issues
  • Child custody issues
  • Divorce cases

Additionally, certain cases which involve Kansas State agencies are not under my direct jurisdictional authority to intervene as a member of the federal government. Examples of these types are listed below.

  • State Revenue taxes
  • Child support services
  • Private Insurance claims

If you are having problems associated with a Kansas State agency, you should contact the office of the Governor of Kansas at (785) 296-3232 or contact your state representative or state senator. If you do not know who is your state senator or state representative, please refer to www.ku.edu/pri/ksdata/vote/.

In addition, if you have any questions as to whether or not your concern is a matter which is best addressed by my office. Please go to the official White House web site for clarification.

Finally, contact me!
All casework is handled in one of my five state offices. It is therefore best that you either come into the office or mail copies of your information directly to one of my state offices. See the table below to determine which office will handle your case.

Once all the necessary information has been collected, my office will be able to contact the appropriate federal agency on your behalf and initiate a Congressional inquiry. My office will keep you updated as to the progress in your case.
