DeMint Statement on Detainee Interrogation Deal

September 21st, 2006 - WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement Thursday regarding the tentative agreement reached on the Bringing Terrorists to Justice Act:

“I haven’t seen all the details yet, but this sounds like a deal I can support. The President and his top security advisors believe it will preserve our detainee interrogation program and authorize military tribunals to bring these terrorists to justice. I understand the agreement also ensures that classified information will not be shared with suspected terrorists. I hope we can get this legislation through the Senate soon.”
