(Washington D.C.)- Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-Norwalk) made the following statements today regarding the Foley scandal and investigation:
“As a grandmother and great-grandmother, I am deeply disturbed and concerned by the actions of our former colleague, Congressman Foley, and those that have tried to sweep it under the rug, ignoring its severity. Republicans promised to restore dignity, integrity, and honesty to government. It is now clear that they have fallen miserably and dangerously short on their promise to America.”
“Republican Leaders have publicly admitted to knowing about Mr. Foley’s abhorrent and intolerable behavior for years and did not bother to ensure how serious the matter was, thereby failing to protect the pages, the children entrusted to the House of Representatives. It must be thoroughly investigated by the House Ethics Committee, immediately questioned, under oath, and punishment dealt swiftly to anyone involved in covering it.”
“Congress needs to move in a new direction, become more respectful of our office, and remember that we are civil servants, representing our constituency above all with honest, integrity, and civility.”
