WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) today issued the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States:
“Today marks the fifth anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. As we remember the victims of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the brave Americans who fought back against the terrorists aboard the airliner that crashed in Pennsylvania, we should also thank the men and women of our military, law enforcement and intelligence communities for their dedication and incredibly hard work. As a result of their efforts, we have gone five years without another attack on our homeland.
“Although we have made great strides in the long and difficult struggle against the forces of hatred and darkness, difficult challenges remain. We face not only the terrorists themselves, but the violent extremist ideology that fuels their agenda. These extremists do not speak for most of the people in the Middle East, but represent hatred, bigotry and paranoia. By continuing to put pressure on these groups and working with our allies, we will be successful. But the challenge is great and we must be resolute.”
