Biography Introduction of U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama

Jeff Sessions, a native of the Wilcox County community of Hybart, Alabama, was elected to the United States Senate in 1996. Currently in his second term, Senator Sessions serves on four committees – Armed Services, Judiciary, Budget, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He also chairs the Republican Steering Committee, a “think tank” and action group for Republican senators.

Prior to his election to the Senate, Senator Sessions had a distinguished public service career in Alabama, as State Attorney General as well as U.S. Attorney in Mobile. A lawyer by training, Senator Sessions also practiced law in Russellville and Mobile.

While serving in the Senate, Senator Sessions has received numerous awards including the Reserve Officers Association Minuteman of the Year Award, the Watchdogs of the Treasury Golden Bulldog Award, the National Federation of Independent Business Guardian of Small Business Award and the Alabama Farmers Federation Service to Agriculture Award.

Senator Sessions is a 1969 graduate of Huntingdon College, and he received a law degree from the University of Alabama in 1973. Senator Sessions is married to Mary Blackshear Sessions, originally of Gadsden, and they have three children.
