Thief River Falls Native Spends Spring Semester Working for U.S. Senator Mark Dayton

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Mark Dayton announced today that Thief River Falls native Bethany Brown has joined Dayton’s Washington, DC office as an intern for the spring. Brown graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in January, where she majored in Political Science and Classics.

As an intern, Brown assists staff in a variety of areas, including processing and responding to constituent correspondence, greeting visitors, and conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol. In addition, Brown attends Congressional hearings and assists Dayton’s senior legislative staff in conducting research, with a focus on education and immigration issues.

“I’m pleased that Bethany is spending part of her spring interning in my Washington Senate office,” said Dayton. “Bethany has a strong sense of commitment, a positive attitude, and she has distinguished herself as a valuable member of our team. I know that her internship provides her with many opportunities to serve her fellow Minnesotans, to experience up close how the legislative branch of our government functions, and to refine her professional skills.”

“Thus far, everything is fantastic,” said Brown. “Everyone in the office, including the Senator, has been incredibly kind and welcoming, and I've already had the opportunity to witness many aspects of government first-hand about which I had previously only heard or read.”

Dayton encourages all college students with a keen interest in government and public service to apply for an internship in his Washington, DC or Fort Snelling Senate offices. For more information, please visit Dayton’s website at www.dayton.senate.gov or call his Senate office at 202-224-3244.
