NEW GENERAL ELECTRIC CONTRACT EXTENSION TO BENEFIT CCAD, COASTAL BEND

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz today announced that the Army executed a contract today with General Electric Aircraft Engine (of Cincinnati, Ohio) that will spend $30,147,368.71 at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) to overhaul and repair the entire T-700 family (Blackhawk) of helicopter engines.  The work will all be done at CCAD. In September, the Army extended the same contract by $10,857,529.10.

 "CCAD is an enormous piece of the military economic engine of Corpus Christi, and these investments in our work pay enormous dividends to this community," said Ortiz, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the House Depot Caucus in the U.S. Congress.  Depending on the outcome of the elections tomorrow (Nov. 7), Ortiz is expected to become the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee's Subcommittee on Military Readiness, making him an even more powerful  voice on national security policy for the United States.

"Everywhere I go where there are U.S. service men and women, they go out of their way to tell me how much it means to them to get in a helicopter repaired at CCAD," Ortiz said.  "I have heard that repeated by soldiers all over the world, serving in the most difficult battlefield conditions.  They know CCAD is populated with veterans who understand that lives literally depend on the quality of our repairs."
