MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD:
BEYOND THE YELLOW RIBBON
During the past three years, many members of our American military and their families have experienced considerable challenges in coping with soldiers' deployment and return stateside. As a Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mark has fought to secure the services and assistance necessary to negotiate these tough transitions successfully.
Most recently, Mark secured $3 million to fund the Minnesota National Guard "Beyond the Yellow Ribbon" initiative, a pilot program that provides early assistance to soldiers who are readjusting upon returning home from combat. This funding will be used for a large brigade of 2,600 Minnesota Guardsmen and women, who will return from Iraq next year.
Minnesota's pilot program will also serve as a national model for helping soldiers and their families to overcome the traumas of war.
