I hope the following is helpful to you in identifying possible sources of federal funding. Although the amount of money available from the federal government for grant and loan programs has decreased in recent years, there are still many excellent resources that will assist you in finding a program that might fit your needs. I have also provided federal procurement resources for businesses interested in federal markets for their products or services.

General Resources

  • The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) - The CFDA is one of the most comprehensive sources for information on federal funding programs.
  • The Federal Register - The Federal Register lists grant announcements for the current day, as well as information on deadlines, review meetings and other grants information.
  • The GrantsWeb - The GrantsWeb provides links to federal agencies, non-profit groups, international funding, and private resources.
  • Federal Consumer Information Center (FCIC) - The FCIC provides links to grant information. They also have a toll free number with staff to refer people to appropriate agencies. 1-800-FED-INFO
  • GrantsNet HHS GrantsNet HHS, through the Dept. of Health and Human Services, is an "electronic roadmap to grants."
  • Grant Management Web Site - The Office of Management and Budget establishes government-wide grants management policies and guidelines through circulars and common rules. OMB Circulars are cited in the CFDA program description and can be downloaded from this web site.
  • Grants List of the OSDBU - This site, provided by the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, provides links to federal agencies and other grant information.
  • The Grantsmanship Center - This site provides links to grant information and training.

  • Rural Business Enterprise Grants - Grants aimed at public bodies, private nonprofit corporations, and Federally-recognized Indian Tribal groups to finance and facilitate development of small and emerging private business enterprises located in areas outside the boundary of a city or unincorporated areas of 50,000 or more and its immediately adjacent urbanized or urbanizing area.
  • Rural Business Opportunity Grants - The purpose of these grants is to promote sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs. This is accomplished by making grants to pay costs of providing economic planning for rural communities, technical assistance for rural businesses, or training for rural entrepreneurs or economic development officials.
  • Rural Economic Development Grants - The purpose of these grants is to provide funding to electric and telephone utilities financed by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture, to promote sustainable rural economic development and job creation projects through the operation of a revolving loan fund program.
  • Rural Development: Rural Housing - The Rural Housing Service works with a wide variety of public and nonprofit organizations to provide housing options to communities throughout rural America. Organizations eligible to apply for RHS funds include local and state governmental entities; nonprofit groups, such as community development organizations; associations, private corporations, and cooperatives operating on a not-for-profit basis; and Federally recognized Native American groups.
  • Rural Development: Water and Environmental Programs - Water and Environmental Programs (WEP) provides loans, grants and loan guarantees for drinking water, sanitary sewer, solid waste and storm drainage facilities in rural areas and cities and towns of 10,000 or less. Public bodies, non-profit organizations and recognized Indian tribes may qualify for assistance. WEP also makes grants to nonprofit organizations to provide technical assistance and training to assist rural communities with their water, wastewater, and solid waste problems.
