Two big city mayors set to slam Homeland security grant process

CAPITOL HILL The Department of Homeland Security's decision to slash New York City's anti-terror funds by 40 percent will come under attack at a House hearing today.

A clearly unhappy House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King wants the department to explain its funding formula.

King says he's never seen "a more baseless or foolish" decision made by any federal department.

The mayors of New York and Washington, D.C., which also saw its federal funding sharply slashed, are due to appear at the hearing.

Republicans and Democrats have blasted the department's decision.

The hearing was scheduled before last weekend's report that al-Qaida planned to use cyanide to kill thousands in the city's subways.

Lawmakers are certain to use it as proof New York is being short-changed.
