Radanovich bill to give Boy Scouts much needed land; Approved by Congress and headed to the President

11/13/06

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) saw his bill, H.R. 409, the Sierra National Forest Land Exchange Act sent to President Bush to be signed into law.  The bill already passed the House, but was amended in the Senate, and required additional approval by the House before being sent to the President.

“As a former member of the Scouting program, I understand the Boy Scouts are an integral part of our community. This important program teaches many vital life skills, as well as leadership and educational principles that serve young men throughout their lives.  This bill will help the Sequoia Council of the Boy Scouts carry out this important mission.”

The Sierra National Forest Land Exchange Act (SNFLEA) would complete a land exchange between the Forest Service and a private citizen.  The land acquired by the private citizen would then be conveyed to the Sequoia Council of the Boy Scouts, who have maintained a recreational camp on a portion of this land for over fifty years.  Thousands of Scouts use the camp each year.
