WASHINGTON
—U.S. Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) announced
today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $294,820
to 17 Michigan communities through the Rural Development Housing Preservation
Grant Program. The funds will be used to repair or rehabilitate 128 low-income
housing units in rural areas of Michigan.
“This is good news for rural communities across Michigan,” said Levin. “These federal dollars will help fund critical improvements and ensure that housing is available and well-maintained throughout Michigan.” “Access to safe and affordable housing keeps our communities strong,” said Stabenow. “These funds for repairs and renovations will help ensure that every Michigan family has a place to call home.” USDA Rural Development seeks to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life in rural communities throughout the country. The Housing Preservation Grant Program awards grants to nonprofit organizations, local governments and Native American tribes to renovate and improve existing multi-family rental units as well as to assist individuals with repairs to private homes.
