Congressman George Radanovich represents a district which has voted Republican at the national, congressional, and states levels since the mid 1990’s. In recent years the district has become increasingly Republican with Republican registration at 48.1% and Democratic registration at 36.9% according to current data.
The district contains 639,088 people of great diversity. The district covers parts of Stanislaus, Madera and Fresno counties and all of Tuolumne and Mariposa counties. The district includes northern portions of the cities of Modesto and Fresno along with many smaller cities which support the area's agricultural industry.
Leading industries in the district include agriculture, food processing, education, healthcare, retail, and tourism. The district includes several major retail centers, the largest being the River Park Shopping Center in Fresno. The crops which are most farmed in the area are grapes, citrus, tomatoes, figs, stone fruit, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cotton, milk, cattle, and poultry just to name a few. In addition to thousands of acres of farmland, the district includes the butterfly filled Sierra foothills, once the site of gold prospecting which now serve as a recreational attraction for both residents and tourists who come from across the U.S. and from overseas to enjoy the picturesque waterfalls and mountain peaks of Yosemite National Park along with other forested areas and lakes such as Bass Lake, Lake McClure, and the Don Pedro Reservoir of Madera, Mariposa, and Tuolumne Counties respectively. In general, the district's public schools are considered above average while the district also boasts several private elementary and high schools. California's 19th district also contains two major universities: California State University (CSU), Fresno and California State University (CSU), Stanislaus.
