I am seeking your support in signing onto the Joint House- Senate Resolution on The 1% Plan. This Plan encourages all Americans to voluntarily increase their annual charitable giving, by a mere, one percentage point. This is the first step in making the “One Percent Plan” a national campaign to raise the consciousness in Americans that while an insignificant increase to most Americans, this added generosity will generate over $90 billion for charities nationwide. This call to action is necessary because charitable giving has stalled at 1.5% to 2.2% the past 50 years.

Further, this Plan would educate Americans that charitable giving is as important to the state of our economy and subsequent government action as the unemployment rate. With additional charitable funds, calls for new tax increases would diminish and the national deficit might decrease. While the initiative exhorts – not legislates – participation, its sole purpose is to challenge Americans to increase their charitable giving.
