Brain Injury Task Force

Approximately 2 million Americans experience Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) each year, and an estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with long-term, severe disabilities as a result of brain injury. The national cost of TBI is estimated to be $48.3 billion annually. That is why I founded the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force.  Co-Chaired by Rep. Todd Platts of Pennsylvania, the caucus will serve as a clearinghouse of information for Congress and the public. It will promote full funding for the TBI Act and other brain injury research programs, and provide guidance to federal agencies on policies and proposed rulemakings.

Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month. Capitol Hill will be honoring persons with brain injury, their families and the vast community of caregivers, medical professionals, scientists, and advocates during the week of March 8: Brian Injury Awareness Day on the Hill.
Activities will include:

1)       A reception recognizing the hard work of the Members of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force which is co-chair by Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. and Congressman Todd Russell Platts.

2)       An afternoon of personal testimony and informational briefing.  Brain injury victims, their families, clinical experts and professional groups from all over the country will be participating to give Congress and their staff a glimpse into the world of brain injury. The theme of this year’s briefings will be “Living with Brain Injury.”

Finally Congressmen Pascrell and Platts will introduce legislation to officially have Congress designate March as Brain Injury Awareness Month.
