Murphy Delivers Federal Grant for Jefferson Township Firefighters

Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department

Pittsburgh, Nov 1 - The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department today received a federal grant of $ $26,040 as part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) presented the check to Fire Chief Brady Mermon and the volunteer fire fighters.

“I would like to congratulate Jefferson Township volunteer fire fighters for their hard work and commitment. This grant is a testament for everything volunteer companies do for our community,” Congressman Tim Murphy said. “The money will be used to purchase a stationary compressor and fill station for air bottles for their Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses that the department will share with Hanover Township and Burgettstown. The three departments coordinate rapid intervention responses together.”

“The volunteers of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department rely on the community for nearly all of its support. In addition to the many hours spent on training and responding to emergencies, the firefighters volunteer their time to raise funds used to buy and maintain equipment,” Murphy concluded. “The 25 active volunteers that make up Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department risk their lives for us everyday. They respond to more than 100 fire calls each year, and serve 1,200 people. It is important that the community continue its generous support.”
