Deadline for U.S. Service Academy Nominations Approaching

Congressman Moore Accepting 2007 Applications through November 1

(Overland Park, KS) - Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District – Kansas) today reminded Third District students that the November 1 deadline for United States Service Academy applications is approaching. Congressman Moore is accepting applications for nominations to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Those selected will enter the academies in June as part of the 2010 graduating class.

“With the upcoming deadline for service academy applications approaching, I encourage every interested student to promptly contact my office for more information on this great opportunity,” said Congressman Moore.

To be eligible, applicants must be a resident of the Kansas Third Congressional District, a U.S. citizen, at least 17 years of age but not past their 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year of admission, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.

Selections will be based on SAT or ACT test scores, class rank, grade point average, extracurricular activities, school records, leadership potential, motivation, recommendations and interview evaluations. If nominated by Congressman Moore, applicants then must meet the individual admission requirements of each academy. The academies will make the final decision on who will receive an appointment of admission.

Interested applicants should send a letter to Congressman Moore's Overland Park office (8417 Santa Fe Drive, #101, Overland Park, KS 66212) requesting that a nomination file be established. After this letter is received, a packet of information, including forms and instructions for completion of the final application, will be sent to the applicant. In order to be considered for a possible nomination, the application packet must be completed and received in the Overland Park office by November 1, 2006, at 5 p.m. No exceptions will be allowed.
