CONGRESSMAN LINDER RECOGNIZED AS JWOD CONGRESSIONAL CHAMPION
|
|
Lawrenceville, GA - Congressman John Linder (R-GA) was presented a plaque by the Bobby Dodd Institute and the Javits-Wagner-O‘Day (JWOD) Program in recognition of his recent induction as a JWOD Congressional Champion. JWOD provides employment to Americans with disabilities by using the purchasing power of the Federal government to buy products and services from participating, community-based, nonprofit agencies dedicated to training and employing individuals with disabilities.
“I had a great visit today at the Bobby Dodd Institute. They are doing great work by employing disabled individuals through a variety of vocational services. The Bobby Dodd Institute and the JWOD Program serve over 40,000 people with disabilities nationwide. They are doing very important work and my visits there are always inspiring.”
Today, there are roughly 45 million Americans with a disability and many of these people are forced to rely on public assistance. The mission of the JWOD Program is to tap into the potential of these individuals through training and opportunity to help them become taxpaying citizens.
“In Georgia alone, the Bobby Dodd Institute enabled around 1,000 people to earn $3 million in wages last year as a result of JWOD. This is a great example of neighbor helping neighbor. This program is making a big difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and I am proud to be called a JWOD Congressional Champion.”
