Dreier Applauds Los Alamos Contract Award to California Team
December 21, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Leader of the California Republican Congressional Delegation, congratulated Los Alamos National Security, LLC, on winning a contract to manage New Mexico’s Los Alamos National Laboratory. The announcement, made today by Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman, is the culmination of a seven-month long competitively-bid contracting process. The contract ensures that the University of California, in a new partnership with Bechtel and other leaders in scientific research and security, will maintain its more than 60 year management of the Laboratory for at least another seven years.
"Today’s announcement is a victory for California, Los Alamos Laboratory, and our national security," Dreier said. "Through this contract, the country will continue to benefit from the experience of the world-class science leadership of the University of California and California as a whole. In addition, we will see superior management, safety and security operations at the Lab, a high priority as we continue our efforts to protect our nation’s most important nuclear assets."
Dreier thanked Governor Schwarzenegger and the bipartisan California Congressional Delegation for their support of the Los Alamos National Security’s proposal. He also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the University of California and the Bechtel Corporation for their efforts to form a successful partnership in order to maintain California-based management of the Lab.
