Dreier to Participate in LA Mission's Thanksgiving Celebrity Serving

AT&T; to present $20,000 in Dreier’s name to LA Mission’s NOVA program

November 19, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) will be joining local celebrities and volunteers this Wednesday, November 21, participating in the Los Angeles Mission’s annual Thanksgiving Celebrity Serving. Before the serving begins, AT&T;’s California Vice President for Government Affairs Perry Parks will present a check for $20,000 to the Mission’s NOVA program in Dreier’s name.

“The LA Mission does outstanding work throughout the year, not just at Thanksgiving, to improve the lives of Los Angeles’ neediest citizens,” said Dreier, who serves on the Mission’s board of directors. “I’m very proud to be participating in their Thanksgiving festivities again this year. And I’m particularly gratified that AT&T; is making such a generous donation on my behalf. They have a proven track record of supporting communities in need. Their contribution to the NOVA program will no doubt yield great opportunities for the Mission’s residents.”

The Mission’s NOVA program is a computer training and literacy program for the members of the Mission. In addition to extending motivational support, the program provides instruction in the following areas: reading, writing, mathematics, computer literacy, English as a second language, basic life skills, and attaining a high school/GED equivalency degree.

“AT&T; is proud to support Congressman Dreier and the Los Angeles Mission,” said Parks. “Historically, the work that AT&T; is doing with the Los Angeles Mission is indicative of the commitment AT&T; has to the community of Los Angeles and the nation. We look forward to working with Congressman Dreier and the Los Angeles Mission in the future.”

The 2001 Thanksgiving Celebrity Serving will take place this Wednesday, November 21 beginning at 11:00 a.m. PST. The LA Mission is located at 330 East 5th Street, Los Angeles. More information about the Mission can be found at www.losangelesmission.org.
