Dreier Praises Resilience of U.S. Economy
3.8 % GDP Growth in Third Quarter Marks 16th Consecutive Quarter of Growth

October 28, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Following today’s announcement of stronger than expected economic growth in the third quarter, Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, praised the resilience of the U.S. economy and the Republican pro-growth, pro-trade, pro-innovation agenda that is fueling its expansion.

"Today’s news of 3.8 percent growth is not only ahead of expectations, but it is truly remarkable given it follows the hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Coast. It makes clear that our economy is fundamentally strong and can weather even the worst of storms. As the people affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma continue to rebuild, the best thing we can do in Congress is make sure the economy stays strong and growing. House Republicans have taken action to keep the economy on the right track. We will continue to follow our pro-growth agenda of tax relief, tort reform, energy solutions, and fiscal restraint to keep things moving in the right direction."
