Dreier Praises Proposed
Department Of Commerce Reorganization

Secretary Evans Plans to Combine Tech and Telecom Policy Shops

July 18, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a key technology leader in Congress, made the following statement today regarding a proposed reorganization of the Department of Commerce's technology policy offices:

"Secretary Evans' proposal will streamline technology policy making and improve the ability of the federal government to respond to an ever changing industry. It will also help achieve the goals of the Congress and the President to ensure federal resources are put to use in the most efficient, effective way possible.

"I applaud the vision of both Secretary Evans and Undersecretary for Technology Phil Bond in laying out this plan. I look forward to working with them and my colleagues here in the Congress to see it through the legislative process and put into place as soon as possible."
