An Artistic Discovery 2006

June 20, 2006

GLENDORA, CA - An Artistic Discovery is the annual nationwide Congressional High School Art Competition conducted by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. This competition provides Members and the public an opportunity to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of young American high school students.

Each Congressional District hosts their own competition and the winner’s artwork will join the work of other high school artists from across the nation at a year long public exhibit in the Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol. Also, there is a local winner, whose artwork will be exhibited in Congressman David Dreier’s local Glendora office. Each high school in the 26th Congressional District received a letter of invitation, guidelines and rules in late February of 2006. Judging took place during the week of March 6th and the winners were announced on March 11th at Noon , during an awards ceremony at the Pomona Valley Art Association Gallery, 300 A South Thomas Street, Pomona 91766. Also, there was a local winner chosen, whose artwork will be exhibited in the Congressman’s local Glendora office.

This year’s Congressional winner is 17 year old Stacy Alexander who attends Glendora High School in Glendora. Her colored pencil drawing of a pier will proudly hang for public exhibit in the Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol. Our Yoon-Ji Kim is 16 years old and attends Calvary Baptist School in La Verne.

Her graphite drawing of a young woman will be hanging in Dreier’s Glendora office for a year.
