Dreier Statement Regarding the Awarding of Congressional Gold Medal to President and Mrs. Reagan

May 16, 2002

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, issued the following statement today regarding the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan:

"Together, Ronald and Nancy Reagan demonstrated tremendous optimism and patriotism when America needed it most. Their leadership and their devotion to America and to each other gave Americans hope again, and made us all realize that we were still the greatest country on earth.

"More than twenty years later, we still live in their shadow of their greatness. Our country, and our world, are better because of their vision of peace, hope, and love. I am proud that the Congress chose to honor them today, and I hope that we continue to draw upon their tremendous example of love of country and each other as we face the many challenges ahead of us."
