Dreier Encourages Seniors to Enroll in Medicare Part D

May 11, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas,CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, voted today to encourage all those eligible seniors who have not yet enrolled in the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit to do so before the May 15, 2006 deadline.

"Medicare Part D presents a tremendous opportunity for America’s seniors," Dreier said. "Already, more than 35 million seniors have enrolled and are saving an average of more than $1000 per year on their prescription drug needs. As the deadline nears, everyone who hasn’t signed up already, and is eligible to do so, should take a close look at this program. As the deadline approaches, there’s a myriad of resources out there to help people work through any questions they might have. I strongly encourage family members to work with their loved ones and help them decide which plan best meet their prescription drug needs."

Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt has been traveling the country this week encouraging seniors to join the 37 million seniors already enrolled. Earlier this week he said, "I continue to remind everyone everywhere I go, signing up is just three simple steps. One: get your prescriptions together. Two: Get your Medicare card. Three: Call 1-800-MEDICARE or go online at www.medicare.gov. Help is here –24/7."
