Dreier Highlights Republican Action, Democratic Inaction on Energy Policies
April 25, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas,CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, issued the following statement today about Republican efforts to increase energy supplies and reduce energy prices, while questioning the Democrat’s constant criticism and lack of record when it comes to proposing solutions:
"The recent spike in gas prices is a costly reminder that not only do we need a greater supply of energy, we need a more diverse supply. That is why for years, House Republicans have voted to put in place responsible energy policies that lay the foundation for increased exploration, conservation and research into alternative fuels.
"Unfortunately, many Democrats have voted "no" on key bills to secure our energy future. Instead, they have resorted to playing politics at the pump. When it comes to real energy solutions, Democrats have run out of gas. House Republicans remain committed to legislation that eases the burden of high energy prices on hard working Americans. We are taking immediate action to protect consumers while we continue to look out for the long-term energy interests of our country."
The Democrats voted against energy reform and expansion of renewable energy and nuclear energy five times:
H.R. 6, Energy Policy Act of 2005 – July 28, 2005 (Passed House 275 – 156) 124 Democrats Voted No.

H.R. 6, Energy Conservation, Research, and Development Act of 2003– April 11, 2003 (Passed House 247 – 175) 157 Democrats Voted No.
