Dreier Honored for Extradition Work Receives Outstanding Service Award from Justice for Homicide Victims, Inc.

April 23, 2006

GLENDORA, CA- Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA) was honored today for his work to bring about a change in Mexico’s extradition policy by Justice for Homicide Victims(JHV), Inc., the action arm of the California Center for Family Survivors of Homicide, Inc. Dreier was presented with the JHV Victim’s Outstanding Service Award by JHV Executive Director Marcella Leach at an annual ceremony commemorating National Victim’s Rights Week. Dreier said he was humbled by the honor.

“Nothing can bring back a loved one lost to violent crime. Because that loss is so deep, organizations like Justice for Homicide Victims exist to help those left behind pursue justice, and move forward with their lives. Receiving an honor from such an important, hard working organization is extremely humbling. I will continue to work with the law enforcement community, as well as groups like Justice for Homicide Victims, to achieve justice for all families and all victims. We must maintain our commitment to reducing crime in our communities. At the same time, we must be ready to stand up for those who need help as they pursue justice for their loved ones.”

In 2004, Dreier traveled to Mexico to meet with Mexican officials, including the Mexican Supreme Court, to urge a change in their extradition policy. He argued that Mexico should extradite suspects accused of violent crimes in the United States, even if they face life in prison. In November 2005, the Mexican Supreme Court reversed a previous decision banning such extraditions, paving the way for them to begin.
