COVINA, CA -- The deadline for the 2002 Youth Volunteer Award is quickly approaching.

Over the last several years Congressman David Dreier has held this annual event to honor the contributions young people have made to the community through volunteer work. The award is open to all high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 residing in the 28th Congressional District.

The district includes the cities of Arcadia, Bradbury, Claremont, Covina, Duarte, Glendora, Industry/Rowland Heights (between Azusa Ave. and Nogales), La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena (upper and lower Hastings Ranch and unincorporated Sierra Madre Villa, Kinneloa, Chapman Woods and Michillinda Park), Pomona (North of I-10), San Dimas, Sierra Madre, Temple City, West Covina, and Walnut.

Applications are available in Congressman Dreier's district office at 112 North Second Avenue, Covina. Those interested in applying must complete an application documenting their volunteer service, write a 250-500 word essay describing the benefits of his/her service to the community, submit one letter of reference, and have an informal interview with the Award Council. The office can be reached by calling (626)339-9078 or (909)592-2857. The deadline for completed applications is 5:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2002.
