DREIER ANNOUNCES 2nd ANNUAL
VETERANS HISTORY PROJECT

April 8 , 2005

GLENDORA, C.A. - In an effort to continue preserving the history of our nation's veterans, Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) is pleased to announce his 2nd annual Veterans History Project, beginning on June 17, 2005. Congress recognized the urgency of collecting wartime memories and as a result, the Library of Congress initiated the Veterans History Project (VHP). Congressman David Dreier, as an official partner of the project, will be collecting personal histories on video tape as well as letters, photographs, diaries, and other materials. All materials collected will be sent to the Library of Congress for future generations to access.

Every day, the United States loses over 1,500 veterans and, as a result, their memories are lost to history," Dreier said. "It's important for future generations to know of the sacrifices and heroism displayed by these men and women who served our great country."

Dreier said he hoped to build on the tremendous success of the 2004 VHP, which his office conducted last year. During last year's project, Dreier and his staff heard from veterans of World War II, Korea, the Vietnam War, and both the conflicts in the Persian Gulf. They also met with family members of veterans who shared their families' experiences. "Last year, we learned so much from our community's veterans," he said. "I believe we have just begun to scratch the surface. My staff and I look forward to meeting with many more veterans this year and hearing their stories."

Interviews will be conducted in the Glendora District Office from June 17 - July 29, 2005. All veterans who are interested in participating in the project should contact Athena Chiera or Julie Sullivan at (626) 852-2626.
