Dreier Hails Continuing Job Growth

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas,CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, hailed today’s news that 211,000 jobs were created in the month of March, as the unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent. That brings the total number of jobs created since the 2003 tax cuts to over 5 million. Dreier pointed out that job growth had been particularly strong in such 21st century economy job fields as engineering and computer systems design, and called for action to be taken to ensure this positive momentum and job market expansion continue.

"In terms of job growth, March 2006 came and went like a lion. Today’s news is more proof positive that the U.S. economy is in full expansion mode. Consumer confidence is also on the rise, thanks to the ever improving job picture. Looking closely at these numbers, it’s clear that both the total employment and size of the labor force are growing, so job creation is keeping up with demand. That’s a great sign.

"If we want to see even more Americans employed, we need to stick with what works - lower taxes, reduced federal spending, and less onerous regulations. It’s simply common sense that we need to continue to pursue our pro-growth agenda, not reverse course by raising taxes and increasing spending as some suggest we should."
